For most of this week I have been in Berlin for a work event/conference.
I have been to quite a few in the UK but this is my first event attended in Europe.
I was hosting a Social Media roundtable, looking at stats and leading a discussion on what is going on with social media in asset management and finance in general, I am pleased and relieved to say it went very well! With a lot of people saying they hope to see the same next year. Relief! (Still have a job on Monday 😉 )
One of the other perks was being able to stay in 2 very lovely hotels, the Westin Grand and the Adlon Kempinski.
What was quite exciting was that they were holding the GQ man of the year awards next door, although sadly my invite got lost. I’m sure Orlando is disappointed.
It also clashed with my work dinner, which was held in a very futuristic place, and it was good to relax after being a bit nervous before my roundtable.
Once the conference was finished I had the Friday afternoon to mooch around Berlin before my room was ready to check in. And, I think I managed to cover a fair bit of ground given the whistlestop nature of my stay.
I saw the Jew memorial, the Brandenburg Gate, Checkpoint Charlie, the Berlin Wall and the Cathedral.
I walked around so much I got a blister, so when I checked into my room at the Adlon, I ordered room service and had one of the most relaxing baths I have had in a very long time.
Of course it all went very quickly and I was back in London in no time.
